| ARTISTES
Go see 'em play and buy
their CDs - we love 'em! |
| PURPLE
MELON |
The
great new Birmingham-based retro-rock band of which Owen
Barry is now a full-time member. Their website will
be fully implemented shortly - in the meantime, check 'em out
playing twice a week at The
Barfly in Birmingham. |
| AUTOMATIC
SLIM |
The
legendary British r''n'b outfit that Tim Aves
fronted for nearly 17 years before the Armadillos became his
main focus. The band came off the road in 1999, but still
reunites to play three or four gigs a year. See the website
for dates and also visit 'Slim's Myspace
page for pics and sound clips. |
| JON
AMOR |
Singer, songwriter,
guitar player, diarist and all-round good egg. Jon used to play
guitar in a band called The
Hoax, who we liked quite a lot (an understatement!)
Currently ploughing a solo furrow, his music is always worth
a listen and the diary page on his website is invariably an
exceptionally good read. Recommended surfing! |
| BAD
INFLUENCE |
One
of our favourite bands - the sublime Val Cowell's vocals and
Richard Hayes's slide guitar combine to provide a treat for
Bonnie Raitt fans everywhere. And the rhythm section are among
the best around - a great night out guaranteed every time! |
| JEFF
BECK |
Probably
the best guitarist on the planet! If you don't know Jeff's work
(and we're not talking about "Hi Ho Silver Lining"!)
you haven't lived. Loads of fansites, but here's the official
one |
| BILL
HURLEY AND THE ENFORCERS
|
Our good pal Big
Bill Hurley, of The Imates - owner of one of the best voices
in the UK - also fronts a great rockin' pub band, called The
Enforcers. This is their new website. |
| RAY
BARTRIP |
Player,
collector and enthusiast for Hammond organs - a fine musician
and a top bloke. |
| CONNIE
LUSH AND BLUES SHOUTER |
"The
Scouse Aretha" - there's no better female singer on the
UK circuit than Connie... Her band are absolutely top-hole and
they're all lovely people, too. |
| DO$CH
|
Great
r'n'b and first-class entertainment from Mr Andy Hinkler and
his Sheffield lads. Great website, too - check out the posters
page! |
| DR
FEELGOOD |
The
original Essex Delta r'n'b band - originally led by
Tim's hero and inspiration, the late, great, Lee Brilleaux.
"The guvnor". |
| |
Georgian
neurosurgeon, blues guitarist, eccentric and all round good
egg. |
| EUGENE
"HIDEAWAY" BRIDGES |
Big,
bold, brassy and as brilliant as you'd want a Texas bluesman
to be... blessed with a voice that sounds like Sam Cooke one
minute and BB King the next and a great, gritty guitar-playing
style. |
| funkydory
|
Great
new funky blues band, featuring the searing vocals of Lorna
Reilly and the fine guitar of Jules Fothergill. Check 'em out! |
| GARY
FLETCHER |
Bass
player with The Blues Band and a fine singer-songwriter in his
own right. One of the good guys, for sure... |
| GUTRHIE
GOVAN |
Owen
rates Guthrie as the best guitarist in the entire world - and
who are we to argue? Amazingly, Guthrie still lives in Chelmsford
and when not touring with prog-rockers Asia, you'll find Guthrie
playing stellar jazz-fusion on a Thursday night at the Bassment,
near Chelmsford station, with The Fellowship. One to check out
for sure!! |
| HAMILTON
LOOMIS |
Mega-talented
young singer/guitarist/multi-instrumentalist from Galveston,
Texas. No stranger to the Essex Delta and a good mate of the
Armadillos. Prepare to be amazed! |
| PAUL
JOBSON |
Disgustingly
gifted young session keyboard player, who also plays pretty
good drums and bass, too! |
| |
Any
sentence containing the words "British", "blues"
and "drummer" is also likely to contain the name of
the ubiquitous and spectacularly talented Mr Kelly. Amazing
doesn't even begin to cover it! |
| KUNDALINI
DRIVE |
Rootsy
duo featuring Tim's former Automatic Slim bandmate Ian Cundy
and his partner, Sheena Butt. |
| LIGHTNING
RED |
Blues
guitar player and singer from Austin, Texas and a good friend
of the 'Dillos |
| PAPA
GEORGE |
Superlative
blues guitarist, wonderful vocalist and talented songwriter.
A great bloke, to boot. One of the best... |
| PEARL
JAM |
Rob's
favourite band - check this place out and you'll find out why...
|
| LED
ZEPPELIN |
Mr Lester's
favourite band - just don't start him talking about Bonzo... |
| IAN
SIEGAL |
Britain's
most charismatic blues singer/frontman bar none. Muddy, Wolf,
Beefheart, Sam Cooke, Tom Waits and Van the Man rolled into
one! Astonishingly good! Highly recommended! |
| MATT
SCHOFIELD |
Supremely
gifted young jazzy blues guitarist, singer and frontman. Possibly
the UK blues scene's fastest-rising star. Go see him! |
| THE
FABULOUS THUNDERBIRDS |
Another
Armadillos favourite - though we do tend to favour the band's
material from their earlier Jimmie Vaughan period.
Their first four albums are required listening! |
| THE
GROOVE DOCTORS |
East
Anglian rockin' blues band (showing alarming jazz tendencies
of late!) including the superlative harmonica of Luke Arnold
and our old mate, Fergie Fulton on bass! Laugh a minute! |
| THE
GUV'NORS |
21st-century
funk, blues and r'n'b from Bob "Bluesmaster" Hokum
and his widescreen lineup. |
| THE
HAMSTERS |
The
hardest-working blues-rock trio in Southend, Essex, the UK and
(as far as we can tell) the entire world! Good guys... |
| THE
HOAX |
Simply
the best blues-rock band to emerge in the UK in the past 20
years. Totally amazing to a man - though sadly no longer with
us. Buy all their old albums and weep! While you're at it,
check out Darlo
Dave's Hoax World - a great anoraky fansite with
loads of into about the band's gear. Also go see ex-Hoax guitarist
Jon
Amor, who is a mate of ours. |
| THE
SPIKEdrivers |
One
of our very favourite bands - "almost acoustic" country
blues, with great grooves, brilliant vocal harmonies, eccentric
percussion wonderful songs and slide guitar to die for. Top
of the pile! |
| TWO-TIMERS
|
Brilliant
pop/blues/roots duo, featuring ex-Dr Feelgood guitarist Gordon
Russell and amazing vocalist/percussionist Sarah James. |
| THE
SWAMP CATS |
Burnham's
other great roots-blues band and our partners in the
ESSEX DELTA BLUES REVUE. Blues, swamp-pop and country music
from Dave Werewolf and the boys. The dog's danglies! Their full
website is currently under construction, but in the meantime,
the link on the left takes you to their Myspace page who you'll
find some great sounds and groovy pics. |
| STEVIE
RAY VAUGHAN |
When it comes to
incendiary blues-rock guitar, wonderful, sensitive, dynamic
blues and sheer onstage panache, nobody did it better than Stevie.
There are loads of websites dedicated to his music, his gear
and more besides. Here's the official one. Tommy
Shannon's own site has some interesting stuff,
too, including some great previously unseen pics. Pride
and Joy is another good one. |
| SOULCRY
|
Before
he was an Armadillo, Alex Hall played in a great funky blues-rock
band called Soulcry.
Check out their sounds on their Myspace page at the link on
the left. |
