JANE
English is
that rare thing among female blues vocalists - a
singer with a voice and style that is truly her
own. Comparisons are, of course, often made - Bonnie
Raitt, Janis Joplin, etc etc - but none of them
are really close to the mark. Jane’s style
is unique, chiefly because she comes to the Armadillos,
not from a blues background, but a rather different
musical world.
After learning her craft in the folk clubs in the
Seventies, Jane spent many years fronting her own
very successful covers/function band, playing upmarket
(and highly lucrative) gigs in top London hotels.
In 1995, the Armadillos “rescued” Jane,
introducing her to a wonderful world of low-paid
gigs in hot, sweaty dives... strangely, she’s
never felt like going back!
Jane
was voted Favourite Female Vocalist in the 2006
Digital Blues Awards.
